Plastic Rock

from Pander by Telyscopes

/

lyrics

Grabbed by a riptide,
mouthfuls of swirling blue
burned my eyes and nostrils,
I wasn't as cautious as Hatteras is notorious

Dragged beyond the continental slope
I can't swim but i haven't sunk yet
I must be buoyant, full of air, tossing in the waves
seasick on my own fraudulence

(Shoreline disappears, clouds are spinning)

Sink, swim
float like a plastic rock
who do i think i'm fooling?

(Sent out a raven, sent out a dove)

Over rigid slopes of blowing dunes that blister feet for circling vultures
one rock stands out among the infinite same:
deflated, misshapen, and faded in solar radiation
but the Sahara was once a vast ocean deep and it'll be underwater again
soon enough.

about

Telyscopes Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

"Since 2012, Telyscopes has molted through one reinvention after another--shedding layers of lo-fi psychedelia, chamber pop, jazz, and electronica like cocoons as the project grows more legs, prettier wings, or sharper mandibles. The lifeblood remains the same: offbeat lyrics and striking melodies. Often ingenious--never typical."
